At GreyKernel, I led the product and technical work on defense-training systems that combined simulation software with physical controls and instructor tools.

Project briefSYSTEMS PROGRAM

Training platforms where every subsystem had to behave as one.

These were training systems, so instructors needed to set up scenarios, run sessions, and evaluate each trainee’s response. That shaped both the software and the equipment around it.

Named programs

  • Armoured systems: BLT T-72 and T-90.
  • Artillery and air-defence systems: M777, Tunguska, and LLLR.
  • Human-performance and communications systems: Advanced Mannequin System and Radio Telephony.

Connecting the hardware and software

The systems used custom hardware, inertial motion tracking (IMU), and sensor data to drive the simulation. VR and AR devices were part of some setups. Instructor controls and evaluation tools sat alongside the trainee’s experience, so the response on screen had to stay consistent with the physical input.

My role

I worked on product definition and systems architecture, led technical delivery, and coordinated with domain specialists. A large part of the job was understanding their training requirements well enough to turn them into usable software and physical interfaces.
